Yesterday I had a surprise–a rather big surprise. I have been praying for five years for an opportunity to start an outreach in our city, a very specific opportunity that will likely require ten churches to agree on if it is ever to happen, as well as the permission and cooperation of City Hall. City Hall called my office yesterday about another unrelated matter in our neighborhood. But one thing led to another! They offered me information, encouragement and assistance towards seeing the outreach become a reality. I was surprised–to say the least. This is just the second step in what could become a long and winding journey.
The first step was five years of prayer. So this morning, I ask you to join me in praying for this opportunity. It will be aimed primarily at young adults, involving cross-cultural programs, ministering locally and equipping some to go even internationally.
But also, what prayers are you praying? Can I invite you to pray big, even audacious prayers today? Remember that our God is bigger than the whole world–there’s nothing in the universe that He can not handle. Besides, He has died and faced the dark depths of the grave for three days, only to defeat death and our sin, rising victorious once and for all!
(Ephesians 5:17) Elijah was a man just like us–and he saw God answer his prayers with power and righteousness. So if he could pray big prayers, then we can know that we can, too.
