I have read with great interest the blogs and emails from participants in Bangkok and consistently have heard each way marvel at how rooted in Scripture was each of the presentations. I am grateful for this gathering and inspired by their commitment to keep missions in the very DNA of the Church worldwide.
One specific observation should be noted here: what corresponded to John Chew’s consecration as bishop, installation as archbishop, and “retirement” from serving as archbishop and bishop? At each of these major crossroads in his life, he convened and/or chaired a major missions round table!! I know of no other bishop in the world who when being consecrated, said since there will be bishops and others visiting from other parts of the world, and since the task of the bishop is to guard the faith and to raise up the Church, then let us gather the day before hand specifically to pray and think together about missions. Archbishop John has now done so three times! Wow. To God be the glory.
